Gayle Souter-Brown established Greenstone Design in 2006 to promote environmentally sustainable design in public spaces. A landscape designer for 20 years, with a background in teaching and environmental science, Gayle trained in garden design and then interior design. She wrote The House & Garden Design Handbook to show how the two disciplines work together.
An educator and trainer of teachers and students of all ages, Gayle brings international experience, horticultural knowledge, landscape and garden design combined with interior design experience, and a working dose of Feng shui, to each commission. Her passion is to make the world a better place through design. Sharing her passion is what motivates her to write and train others.
Sustainable Landscape Design
Greenstone Design works with schools, businesses and local authorities to design sustainable landscapes. Businesses in a turn-around state sometimes need some help with appearances - they need to smarten up their overall look, re brand their image, and capture the 'green' market with some sensitive interior and landscape design. Schools similarly need to refresh their outlook with updated grounds design. We plan outdoor spaces to work with indoor spaces.
Sustainable Interior Design
Greenstone Design use natural materials in their designs. Locally-sourced where possible, fabric, finishes and furnishings inspire and uplift a space. Passive solar heating and ventilation using large, correctly orientated opening windows and doors provide cost-effective warmth in winter and cool air in summer. Natural light and fresh air also uplift the spirit and recharge our energy.
'Going Green' has benefits for all. Gayle Souter-Brown combines her environmental and commercial interests to make a difference. Garden design has a new importance in this age of global climate change and general environmental degradation. Our outdoor environment must enhance our interiors and vice versa. Where we work, study and play shapes who we are and how we relate to the world around us.
Think Global. Act local. Now!
