Play area design
Play area design consultants - We specialise in natural play, sensory play, playable landscapes
Design for play
"There is more to playground design than the KFC (kit, fence, carpet) approach, but also more than logs and boulders"

Sensory play area design
As population pressure grows, our homes are becoming smaller and more crowded. As our home outdoor space shrinks, play areas need to fulfill many more roles. Many play activities we used to do at home will need to be accommodated in urban open space, public parks and school playgrounds.
Natural play offers the opportunity to connect children with nature. Themed play areas afford a sense of place. We like to incorporate sand play, climbing, swinging, playable planting, exciting areas that entice exploring and hide and seek, roly-poly slopes, tunnels, outdoor theatre, art and outdoor music with natural materials. In a recent project in Moscow, Russia, we blended existing manufactured play equipment into the new natural play area. To see a video of what will be a magical winter wonderful, and under snow for 5 months of the year, click on the link to see the opening of the natural playground
Greenstone Design UK's play designers believe there is more to natural play than logs and boulders. We design adventure playgrounds and urban play spaces for healthy children - our partner physiotherapist and occupational therapist, landscape consultants and horticulturalists (who know which fruit trees for public playgrounds grow best and where, which trees provide best shade and are safely climbable), and psychologist (who understand the importance of social and quiet play space) work together with our play designers to create natural and sensory play areas.
We design for a healthy environment - our ecologist will survey species currently in the area and suggest how to improve bio diversity. Our environmental engineers and landscape consultants work with the client and the Environment Agency to provide sustainable drainage solutions for our play areas.
We design for healthy people and healthy living communities - our urban and rural design play designers and landscape architects engage the community, consult widely and design the overall space to meet the needs identified through the collaborative process. To provide a sustainable solution requires deep thinking at the planning stage to ensure community ownership. By collaborating with a broad range of experts our clients save time and money and achieve a sustainable, cost effective result.
Our play areas offer multi generational appeal; they are not exclusively for a certain age group. Family groups come in all shapes and sizes. For a play area to be a true community resource it must offer something for everyone, from teenagers to under 5's, grannies to office workers enjoying lunch outdoors. Older disabled children often wish to play with younger age ideas. Siblings wish to play alongside. Adults want to try out their chin press or stretch out in a hammock net while the kids are safely in school. Tolerance and understanding is built by early exposure to varied ages, cultures, sexes and abilities.
Greenstone Design UK brings together the full range of social, health, education, environment, design and play consultants. Natural Play areas for healthy living, and adaptable, inclusive public play grounds for sustainable communities, require a new way of thinking. Greenstone's play designers' broad vision combines the expertise of our multi disciplinary team to ensure balanced, low maintenance, cost-effective playgrounds for disabled and non-disabled children and their families.
