Eco hotels Boutique hotels Resort design
Resorts and eco hotels must offer a landscaped garden setting that provides both a functional outdoor space, but also a deeply re-connective nature experience for the visitor. The term 'resort' brings to mind a healthy, restorative environment. Choosing which elements to include in an individual resort are down to the client, the location and to an extent budget. However, skilled designers include landscape elements that provide a wow factor without costing a fortune. They can also, when so designed, add a revenue stream to the business, where otherwise the grounds would be a net cost.
Resort design using specimen trees that support attractive wildlife are one (simplified) example of increasing return on investment. You know you need a tree, but by choosing a particular tree you can create something special, something that attracts visitors to spend longer at the resort, broadens the market appeal of the resort, potentially attracts sponsorship to the business (wildlife conservation programs).
The resorts we designed in Europe and Asia successfully embrace this form of ecologic and economic landscape design of their grounds, improve ROI, while meeting CSR requirements of contributing both to the local environment and local economy.
We have been privileged to design the grounds of some wonderful eco resorts and hotels around the world. Each offers a sustainable addition to the business bottom line. Diverse projects include the 50 acre Shangri-La group’s eco resort in Sabah, Borneo and the 8 hectare grounds of Europe’s first disabled children’s hotel in Portugal.
Sensory gardens for health spas offer the ultimate in luxury. With a careful mix of appropriate planting, interesting textures under foot, light and shade, sounds, taste and sights to delight we can offer your guests and staff the ultimate place to rest, restore and recharge. Playful spaces offer the chance to reconnect with nature and our inner child.
Increasingly clients are demanding improved environmental credentials. They want to spend their money where they can make a difference. Greenstone Design UK prides itself on a strong environmental and CSR policy
Savings in water supply, waste disposal garden maintenance and energy use can all be achieved through sustainable landscape design. Greenstone Design UK offers a sensitive response to the local environment. Where butterflies would normally live naturally we create habitat to encourage them to stay as part of the resort grounds. We design the space to support a paying part of the hotel, so a butterfly cafe could become a saleable feature of the eco resort.
Mown paths mean less mowing overall and provide longer wild flower meadow areas to support and promote bio-diversity. Water features often set the scene for eco resort gardens. They can also be used to collect, filter and slow rainwater flows. Rain gardens offer a low cost hotel gardens' maintenance option.
